Unimed FAQ

Unimed is a healthcare insurance provider that partners with Clearhead, allowing Unimed members to book therapy appointments and redeem their policy benefits directly through the Clearhead platform.

Clearhead charges a 10% facilitation fee for managing these bookings. This replaces the additional administration that would otherwise be required if the client booked directly with you. By processing bookings through Clearhead, we manage the policy deductions for the client and invoicing/payment process for the therapist, reducing administration for both parties.

Common Unimed Policies

Unimed policies may include:

How Many Sessions Does a Unimed Client Have?

A client’s available therapy sessions are calculated based on their remaining Unimed policy balance divided by the cost of the selected therapy service, including our fee.

The number of available sessions can vary depending on the type of therapy service selected, as different services may have different session costs. For example, a client may be able to access more sessions if they select a lower-cost service, while a higher-cost service may use more of their policy balance per session. If a client uses a mix of different service types, this will also affect how many sessions they have remaining.

At the time of booking, Clearhead gives an estimated number of available sessions based on the client's current policy balance. However, this number can change if the client uses their Unimed allocation for other eligible healthcare services outside of therapy, as this reduces the remaining balance available for future sessions.

We understand this can make treatment planning more challenging; however, the available balance is determined by Unimed and is outside Clearhead’s control.

Policy Renewals

Unimed policies typically renew annually. The policy expiry date is displayed within the client’s case number.

When a policy renews, the client’s available allocation should also refresh around the same time. The client will need to book using their renewed case number for the updated allocation to appear.

Session Extensions
Unimed clients are not eligible for session extensions.

Once a client has used their available policy allocation, they cannot access additional sessions through their Unimed benefit. They may choose to self-fund further sessions if they wish.

When their policy renews, they will become eligible for new sessions. The client will need to make a new booking to initiate a new allocation/case number for it to become available/visible in the Provider Portal.
